  Saat ini, tantangan seluruh bidan Indonesia diharuskan memiliki kompetensi dengan pendidikan profesi bidan masih menjadi beban yang cukup berat untuk diselesaikan. Tantangan ini merupakan tuntutan yang harus dipenuhi sesuai aturan yang dikeluarkan pada Undang-Undang Kebidanan No. 4 Tahun 2019 bahwa seluruh bidan yang memiliki praktek kebidanan mandiri harus dengan pendidikan profesi bidan pada tahun 2026. Sedangkan untuk menjalankan pendidikan profesi bidan, para pendidik juga dituntut harus memiliki latar belakang pendidikan profesi bidan juga. Namun, fakta saat ini masih banyak perguruan tinggi yang belum memenuhi persyaratan tersebut dalam pengelolaan pendidikan profesi bidan. Mempertimbangkan praktek mandiri yang telah dimiliki, para bidan mau tidak mau harus menempuh pendidikan lanjutan agar tetap bisa menyelenggarakan praktek mandirinya.
